The UIM(upper intake manifold) gasket is the one between the LIM and UIM. The 2.8/3.1 V6 engines are notorious for LIM gasket failure. In a nut shell most GM V-engines have LIM gasket issues. GM just went a little cheap on the gasket design. The UIM gasket is not the issue so much on the 3800 seriesII as it is the UIM plenum itself that fails.Re: LIM gaskets Your GM dealer may tell you that the metal frame gaskets will not fit your car, but fear not, they will fit all L36 engines from 1995 to 2003.
